Solid polycarbonate is a single-layer sheet offering maximum impact resistance and optical clarity. It's ideal for safety glazing, machine guards, and applications requiring transparency. Twin-wall polycarbonate has a hollow multi-chamber structure that provides excellent thermal insulation (U-value 2.9 vs 5.6 for solid) while reducing weight by up to 50%. Twin-wall is preferred for roofing, greenhouses, and applications where thermal efficiency matters.

Polycarbonate has superior impact resistance (250x vs 10x stronger than glass) and can handle higher temperatures (120°C vs 80°C). However, acrylic has better optical clarity (92% vs 88%) and is more scratch-resistant. Polycarbonate is preferred for safety applications, while acrylic is better for optical clarity needs. Both materials require UV stabilization for outdoor use.

With proper UV stabilization, polycarbonate sheets can last 10-15 years outdoors.
