Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our products

What is the difference between solid and twin-wall polycarbonate?
Solid polycarbonate is a single-layer sheet offering maximum impact resistance and optical clarity. It's ideal for safety glazing, machine guards, and applications requiring transparency. Twin-wall polycarbonate has a hollow multi-chamber structure that provides excellent thermal insulation (U-value 2.9 vs 5.6 for solid) while reducing weight by up to 50%. Twin-wall is preferred for roofing, greenhouses, and applications where thermal efficiency matters.
How does polycarbonate compare to acrylic for outdoor use?
Polycarbonate has superior impact resistance (250x vs 10x stronger than glass) and can handle higher temperatures (120°C vs 80°C). However, acrylic has better optical clarity (92% vs 88%) and is more scratch-resistant. Polycarbonate is preferred for safety applications, while acrylic is better for optical clarity needs. Both materials require UV stabilization for outdoor use.
Can polycarbonate sheets be cut to custom sizes?
Yes, we offer precision cut-to-size services for all polycarbonate sheets. We use CNC routers and specialized saws to ensure clean cuts without cracking. We can cut complex shapes, drill holes, and create custom edge profiles. Standard lead time for custom cutting is 3-4 weeks.
What is the lifespan of polycarbonate sheets outdoors?
With proper UV stabilization, polycarbonate sheets can last 10-15 years outdoors. Our UV-protected grades have a co-extruded UV layer on both sides that prevents yellowing and maintains optical properties. Twin-wall sheets typically come with a 10-year warranty against yellowing and loss of light transmission.
How should polycarbonate sheets be cleaned?
Use lukewarm water with mild soap and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex) and abrasive materials that can scratch the surface. For stubborn dirt, use isopropyl alcohol. Never use solvents like acetone or benzene. Clean in the shade when the surface is cool to prevent water spots.
