Acrylic
Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA)
Acrylic, also known as Plexiglas® or Perspex®, offers excellent optical clarity (92% light transmission) and weather resistance. It's lightweight, easy to fabricate, and available in clear, colored, and specialty finishes.
Key Properties
- Optical clarity
- Excellent weather resistance
- Lightweight - half the weight of glass
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is known for its exceptional impact strength - 250 times stronger than glass. It offers high temperature resistance and can be thermoformed or machined for various applications.
Key Properties
- Impact strength
- High temperature resistance (-40°C to +120°C)
- Good optical clarity
PETG
Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol
PETG combines excellent clarity with superior impact resistance and thermoforming capabilities. It's FDA compliant for food contact and easier to fabricate than acrylic or polycarbonate.
Key Properties
- High impact resistance
- Excellent thermoforming properties
- FDA compliant for food contact
PVC
Polyvinyl Chloride
PVC foam board offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio with a rigid, durable surface. It's easy to fabricate, print, and paint, making it ideal for signage and displays.
Key Properties
- Lightweight yet rigid
- Excellent printability
- Moisture and chemical resistant
ABS
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene
ABS combines strength, rigidity, and excellent thermoforming properties. It's widely used in automotive, electronics, and industrial applications.
Key Properties
- High impact strength
- Excellent thermoforming
- Good chemical resistance
Fiberglass
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) sheets combine glass fiber reinforcement with polymer resin matrices. Offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and durability for demanding industrial environments.
Key Properties
- High strength-to-weight ratio
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Superior electrical insulation
HDPE
High-Density Polyethylene
HDPE offers excellent chemical resistance, impact strength, and low moisture absorption. FDA compliant for food contact and ideal for outdoor applications.
Key Properties
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Very low moisture absorption
- High impact strength
Nylon
Polyamide (PA)
Nylon offers excellent wear resistance, low friction coefficient, and high strength. Ideal for bearings, gears, and mechanical applications.
Key Properties
- High wear resistance
- Low friction coefficient
- Excellent toughness
PTFE
Polytetrafluoroethylene
PTFE (Teflon®) offers the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material. Excellent chemical resistance and high temperature stability.
Key Properties
- Lowest coefficient of friction
- Excellent chemical resistance
- High temperature resistance (-200°C to +260°C)
PET
Polyethylene Terephthalate
PET film offers excellent clarity, dimensional stability, and barrier properties. Widely used for packaging, graphics, and industrial applications.
Key Properties
