Cast acrylic rods are made by casting liquid resin in molds, resulting in higher optical clarity, better machinability, and superior polishability. Extruded rods are produced by pushing acrylic through a die, making them more economical with consistent dimensions. Cast rods are preferred for optical and high-end applications; extruded rods are suitable for general purpose use.

Yes, acrylic rods can be bent using heat (thermoforming). Use a heat gun or oven to heat the rod to 140-160°C until pliable, then bend to the desired shape and hold until cooled. Thicker rods require more heat and time. Always heat gradually to avoid bubbles or stress cracks.

Acrylic rods can be polished by sanding progressively with finer grits (400 to 2000), then using a plastic polish compound. For a professional finish, flame polishing can be used on cut ends - carefully pass a propane torch over the surface to melt and smooth it. Machine polishing with a buffing wheel also works well.
